This is how I do it...

My office is small with one operatory.

Fixed occupancy costs run about $1500 a month total.

I have one staff person who does clinical assisting and administrative work. I pay her an hourly wage with no other benefits. Also I have one other person that works part time from home for admin stuff.

I do extractions, socket preservation grafts, and one piece implant related procedures - implant crowns and bridges, implant dentures, and cemented roundhouse implant bridges.

I also will occasionally do fillings and crowns if it is part of an implant related treatment plan, but this doesn't happen much.

I use a cloud based dental software and run my practice on an iPad. (Literally an iPad is my entire computer system). No worries about backups, security, buying servers and workstations, down time, or paying IT guys $2500 a month. And I can access all my practice stuff from where ever I am, whenever I need to.

I have my own app that works on my iPad and phone, so my assistant and I can respond to texts, emails, phone calls, Facebook or Instagram messages... all from one inbox, and from anywhere.

I have an automated system to generate and respond to reviews from patients.

I have a website that allows potential patients to directly text us right from the website, and a system to automatically reply to them... ("Hey sorry we missed your call, how can we help.") ie, we never miss a phone call.

I have an email system that automatically follows up with new patient prospects.

I use state of the art marketing system with AI to generate my flow of implant patients, and automate everything as much as possible.

I am not on any insurance PPO’s. All patients pay us in full, and the insurance check goes to the patient.

We do NO billing. We have no accounts receivable.

All treatment is pre-paid up front, in full, before we start treatment. (We offer outside financing options for those who need it).

We are not providers with any insurance plans. Patients pay us, and the insurance check goes to them.

I see one patient at a time. My schedule and my office is relaxed and pretty much stress free.

I work Tuesdays from 10 am to 6 pm. We do a major procedure at 10 am, and the afternoon is for consults and smaller procedures. I also will as needed schedule a major procedure on Thursdays at 10 am and that's it for the day. (Now most docs would probably work more than this... but that is all I want to do at this point).

I have systems to make everything as automated and simple as possible.

So you can see that my practice is different than the norm. I am not suggesting the way I practice is ideal for everyone, and I’m not saying you should do it - but I think you should look hard at it... because it's just a whole other better way of practicing in my opinion..

And I will tell you I've been practicing since 1985, and I've worked in every type of practice known to mankind - including as an owner and an associate (multiple times), and I have scratch started two practices.

And this I can assure you...

This type of practice is soooo much simpler, easier, more enjoyable, less stressful, and more profitable than any “normal” practice I have previously been in or owned.
